One US cup of plain (all-purpose) flour weighs about 125 g. Self-raising flour is similar at 125 g, wholemeal flour is denser at around 130 g, and bread flour at about 127 g. Always spoon flour into the cup and level – packing adds 10-20% more weight.

Volume measures space, weight measures mass. A cup of flour weighs much less than a cup of sugar because flour is less dense. That's why this converter asks you to pick an ingredient – it uses the standard density to convert accurately.

A UK/metric tablespoon is 15 ml. A US tablespoon is also 15 ml (officially 14.79 ml, usually rounded). An Australian tablespoon is 20 ml. This converter uses the standard 15 ml.
