Creatinine Clearance Calculator
Calculate estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and creatinine clearance with multiple formulas. Designed for UK healthcare professionals.
Patient Information
About This Calculator
This calculator provides estimates of kidney function using three common formulas:
- Cockcroft-Gault: Estimates creatinine clearance in mL/min.
- MDRD (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease): Estimates GFR in mL/min/1.73m².
- CKD-EPI (Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration): The most accurate formula for eGFR calculation, especially in the higher GFR range.
The CKD staging follows UK NICE guidelines (NG203, 2021) for chronic kidney disease management.
Medical Information
Formula Details
Cockcroft-Gault Formula:
CrCl (mL/min) = [(140 - Age) × Weight × (0.85 if female)] / (72 × Serum Creatinine in mg/dL)
MDRD Formula (4-variable):
eGFR (mL/min/1.73m²) = 175 × (Serum Creatinine in mg/dL)-1.154 × (Age)-0.203 × (0.742 if female) × (1.212 if Black)
CKD-EPI Formula:
eGFR = 141 × min(SCr/κ, 1)α × max(SCr/κ, 1)-1.209 × 0.993Age × (1.018 if female) × (1.159 if Black)
Where κ is 0.7 for females and 0.9 for males, α is -0.329 for females and -0.411 for males, SCr is serum creatinine in mg/dL.
CKD Staging (NICE Guidelines)
| Stage | GFR (mL/min/1.73m²) | Description |
|---|---|---|
| G1 | ≥90 | Normal or high |
| G2 | 60-89 | Mildly reduced |
| G3a | 45-59 | Mildly to moderately reduced |
| G3b | 30-44 | Moderately to severely reduced |
| G4 | 15-29 | Severely reduced |
| G5 | <15 | Kidney failure |
