About the Energy Price Cap
What is the Energy Price Cap?

The energy price cap is set by Ofgem and limits the maximum amount suppliers can charge per unit of energy. It's reviewed quarterly and protects consumers on default tariffs.

What's Included?
  • Unit rate: Cost per kWh of energy used
  • Standing charge: Daily fixed charge for being connected to the grid
  • VAT: Energy bills are charged at 5% VAT

Ofgem defines typical household usage as:

  • Low: 1,600 kWh electricity, 6,000 kWh gas
  • Medium: 2,500 kWh electricity, 9,500 kWh gas
  • High: 3,800 kWh electricity, 14,000 kWh gas
