Yes. England and Wales have eight bank holidays a year. Scotland has no Easter Monday but adds 2 January, St Andrew's Day and a summer bank holiday on the first Monday in August. Northern Ireland adds St Patrick's Day and the Battle of the Boyne (12 July) on top of the England and Wales list. When a holiday falls on a weekend, a substitute weekday is normally given, and the calculator applies this automatically.

By default both the start date and the end date are counted if they are working days. Untick the boxes to exclude either one. Many legal and contractual deadlines use "clear days", which exclude both the day of the event and the day of the deadline, so check the wording of your agreement or rules.

Switch to the "Add or subtract working days" tab, enter your start date and the number of working days, and choose whether to add or subtract. The start date itself is not counted, so 1 working day after a Friday is the next Monday, unless that Monday is a bank holiday. The calculator also lists any holidays it skipped along the way.

A typical year has around 260 weekdays. After the eight England and Wales bank holidays that fall on weekdays are removed, that leaves roughly 252 to 254 working days. In 2026 the figure for England and Wales is 253. Use the date range option with 1 January to 31 December to check any other year or region.

Regular bank holidays follow fixed rules and are calculated automatically, and one-off dates such as the 2022 Platinum Jubilee, the 2023 Coronation and Scotland's 15 June 2026 World Cup bank holiday are included. The Government can announce extra bank holidays at short notice, and some Scottish councils set local holiday dates (not all councils chose to observe the 2026 World Cup holiday), so always confirm important deadlines against gov.uk or your employer's calendar.
