About This Score
CHA₂DS₂-VASc Score
The CHA₂DS₂-VASc score is a risk stratification tool used to estimate the risk of stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF). It guides clinicians in determining whether anticoagulation therapy is necessary.
Components:
- C: Congestive heart failure (1 point)
- H: Hypertension (1 point)
- A₂: Age ≥ 75 years (2 points)
- D: Diabetes mellitus (1 point)
- S₂: Prior Stroke/TIA/thromboembolism (2 points)
- V: Vascular disease (1 point)
- A: Age 65-74 years (1 point)
- Sc: Sex category (female) (1 point)
Note: This calculator is intended for healthcare professionals. Clinical judgment should always be used alongside risk scores. UK guidelines recommend considering anticoagulation for patients with CHA₂DS₂-VASc score ≥ 1 in men or ≥ 2 in women.
